The Conference on Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (COMSTEDA) is a continental forum for educators to share ideas, practices, interrogate issues, and challenges relating to teaching and learning Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) towards improved learning outcomes. The conference brings together educators, policy makers, researchers, teachers, NGOs, public/private sector stakeholders, and learners to share innovative classroom practices and research findings. The conference is hosted annually by SMASE-Africa in collaboration with member countries.

Conference Objectives

The objectives of the conference are:

  • To bring together educators, governments, academic and private sector institutions to interrogate issues, share ideas on best and promising practices and challenges relating to teaching and learning STEM
  • To improve quality of education in Africa through sharing impact and research findings on classroom practices to inform policy and practice
  • To present case studies and research findings in STEM Education in Africa
  • To promote and highlight the role of STEM education in economic development of the continent

Introducing CEMASTEA’s Practitioner Journal of Mathematics and Science Teachers

CEMASTEA has established a Practitioner Journal of Mathematics and Science Teachers (PJM&ST). The PJM&ST publishes peer reviewed articles sourced from reflections by practitioners in the Education and Training Sector. The articles published in Volume 1 Issue 1 of PJM&ST for the FY 2021/2022 address issues of practice that target to inform effective curriculum implementation. CEMASTEA invites practitioners in the Education and Training Sector to contribute articles in the upcoming Volumes and Issues of the PJM&ST. Click here to access the journal.
