CEMASTEA Expands STEM Mentorship Programme to Nyamira County Junior Schools
The Centre for Mathematics, Science and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) has scaled up its STEM Mentorship and Outreach programme across Nyamira County. The initiative, aimed at fostering a positive attitude toward science and mathematics, is being rolled out across five selected junior schools-one in each of the county’s sub-counties.
The participating institutions included St. Ambrose Kierira Comprehensive School, Gesibei Junior School, Nyambaria DEB, Ikonge PAG, and Nyamira DEB.
By blending education, technology, and entertainment, the programme relies on interactive models and play-based learning to demystify STEM subjects. This approach aims to dismantle the stereotype that science and mathematics are reserved only for exceptionally gifted learners, making the disciplines accessible to all.
Ultimately, the intervention is designed to boost learner confidence, achievement, and creativity. By engaging students early, CEMASTEA hopes to inspire junior school learners to pursue and excel in STEM based subjects as they transition to senior school, equipping them with the 21st-century skills, knowledge, and values needed to become lifelong learners.
