CEMASTEA is an institution that offers In-Servie Eduction and Training (INSET) for local and international Mathematics and Science Educators. The training is offered for both Primary and Secondary school level.There are three main training programmes namely Primray INSET programme, Secondary INSET programme and Strengthening of Mathematics and Science Education in Africa (SMASE-Africa) programme. The latter offers training for international participants.  Within these training programmes ICT integration in teaching and  learning is offered. All these trainings are coordinated by the training  department of CEMASTEA

To transform teaching by continuously developing competences for effective curriculum delivery and improved quality of education

Core Functions
The main responsibility of the training department is plan, organize, direct, corrdinate and monitor INSET, support workshops and training conferences and symposia. Specifically the department functions are but not limited to:
• Formulating and implementing institutional training policies;
•Advising on matters pertaining to teacher capacity development;
• Spearheading the coordination and development of teacher capacity development programmes in accordance with policies specified by the government and in consultation with other relevant bodies;
• coordinating the implementation of teacher capacity development programmes for Kenya and other African countries; and
• providing advisory and consultancy services in teacher capacity development;

Programme Description
The training prgrammes include:
1)    Primary INSET programme
2)    Secondary INSET programme
3)    SMASE-Africa programme;

Services
1)    Training on effective and innovative pedagogy
2)    Consultancy on INSET
