SMASE-WECSA is a training programme in CEMASTEA whose mandate is to conduct international trainings. The participants in these trainings are Mathematics and Science educators drawn from 34 countries of Africa.  The idea of this training was born out of the desire by SMASE-WECSA member countries (Now SMASE Africa) to promote capacity building for enhancing quality Mathematics and Science education.
Through the support of the Governments of Japan and Kenya, SMASE-WECSA provides capacity building programmes namely Third Country Training Programmes (TCTP) for its members. Since inception, over 1,500 educators from 27 countries have benefited from the training programmes. The hallmark of the training is the principle of Activities, Students, Experiment, and Improvisation through Plan, Do, See, and Improve (ASEI-PDSI). Similarly 15 regional conferences and three technical workshops have also been organized successfully.
