VISION
Excellent capacity development in STEM Education in Africa.

MISSION
To continuously develop competencies for sustainable development through STEM Education.

MANDATE & CORE FUNCTIONS
The Centre is mandated to provide continuous professional development of teachers in STEM education. The functions shall be to:-

  1. Provide training under policies specified by the Ministry of Education, TSC, and other relevant stakeholders;
  2. Conduct research to inform Teacher Professional Development programs, internal quality assurance processes, and policies;
  3. Organize and conduct seminars, workshops, conferences and symposia in STEM education and teacher capacity development;
  4. Print, publish and disseminate information and research related to STEM education and teacher capacity development;
  5. Provide advisory and consultancy services in STEM education and teacher capacity development;
  6. Develop local and international partnerships, linkages and collaborations with Government agencies, institutions and organizations with interests in STEM education and teacher capacity development;
  7. Function as the Secretariat of the Strengthening of Mathematics and Science Education in Africa (SMASE-Africa) Network and ADEA’s Inter-Country Quality Node on Mathematics and Science Education (ICQN-MSE);
  8. Support the implementation of STEM in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).


In this regard, the Centre is expected to:-

  • Use identified training needs from school assessments by MOE and TSC to inform development of its Teacher Professional Development course content
  • Collaborate with TSC, in line with the TSC Act 2012 and TPD Framework 2018, to identify teacher competency gaps to inform Teacher Professional Development course content
  • Liaise with KICD in the development of Teacher Professional Development to enhance teacher’s capacity to interpret and implement curriculum
  • Liaise with KNEC on feedback from assessment and evaluation to inform INSET course content
  • Liaise with KISE to incorporate special needs in Teacher Professional Development course content.
  • Network and partner with like-minded organizations and institutions of higher learning or otherwise to achieve its mandate
